Privacy Policy
Effective 8 October 2026
EarHint is an iPhone app that follows your talk and cues you through an earbud. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app and this website.
The short version
- We do not collect any data from the app.
- Your drafts, recordings and transcripts stay on your iPhone.
- Your speech is recognized on your iPhone. Your audio is not sent to us or to anyone else.
- There is no account, no advertising and no tracking.
What the app stores on your iPhone
EarHint keeps the following on your device so the app can work:
- The talks you create: titles, drafts, talking points and settings.
- Audio recordings of your rehearsals, and of live talks unless you turn recording off for a talk.
- Transcripts and results of your sessions, such as which points you covered and where you were cued.
- The signal sounds you record to ask for a cue.
None of this is sent to us. We have no servers that receive it and no way to see it.
Microphone and speech recognition
EarHint uses the microphone only while you are rehearsing, giving a talk, recording a signal or testing a phrase. The audio is turned into text on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device speech recognition or an on-device Whisper model. The audio and the text are not sent off your device.
When the app uses the internet
EarHint works offline once it is set up. It connects to the internet only in these cases:
- Downloading a speech model. The first time you use a language, your iPhone may download a speech recognition model, from Apple or, on older versions of iOS, from Hugging Face, which hosts the Whisper model. As with any download, that service sees your IP address. Nothing about you or your talks is sent with the request.
- Purchases. Buying or restoring EarHint Pro goes through Apple's App Store.
Purchases
EarHint Pro is sold by Apple as an in-app purchase. Apple handles the payment under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple gives us only summary sales reports that do not identify you.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
The app contains no analytics tools, no advertising and no tracking, and it does not share data with third parties. If you have agreed to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash and usage statistics. You can turn this off in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
This website
This website sets no cookies and has no advertising. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes your IP address to deliver the pages. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It does not use cookies, does not track you across sites and does not identify individual visitors.
Backups
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes your EarHint talks and recordings, the same as it does for other apps. Those backups are handled by Apple or stored on your computer, not by us.
Recording other people
A recording of a live talk may pick up other people's voices. You are responsible for following the rules that apply where you record. You can turn off recording of live talks in each talk's settings.
Deleting your data
- Delete a single recording or session from the talk's history.
- Delete a talk to remove its draft, talking points, history and recordings.
- Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your iPhone.
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Children
EarHint is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
When you contact us
If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
